Putting it all together: 5 Reasons why everyone wants a Gphone
5. Its not an iPhone (and its not on AT&T): All the early adopters have iPhones plus a two year contract with AT&T. Sucks for them. The real question is, who will provide the network until Google gets their own piece of the pie?
4. Open Platform: Its highly likely that the Gphone will have a platform for which any developer can create applications. The OS itself is probably a flavor of Linux but will probably have API hooks for Java.
3. Google Apps for Mobile: Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Maps and all the other goodies will come installed on the Gphone. And the default interface isn’t some crazy menu system that no one can use but the “One Box” search interface that we all know and love.
2. 3G (no G is not for Google): Not a sloooooow EDGE connection. Real 3G! Fast enough to download all the websites, emails and YouTube clips you could ever want.
1. Free?: Probably not but likely cheaper than the iPhone.
Bonus Reasons:
1. The Gphone will support javascript and css? The iPhone and some Nokia Series 60 devices already use Webkit as a basis for their browsers and Google may follow.
2. Grand Central support: One number, one voicemail box, and tons of killer features.
3. 800-GOOG-411: If you can’t type, you can always call…
Of course, this is my take on the Gphone. We’ll know the truth when the phone is actually released.
BTW - “gPhone” seems incorrect to me. Apple would call it a “gPhone” while Google will probably call it a “Gphone” (see Gmail for example).
